Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (1882)

Hotspur Football club was formed on Tuesday the 5th September 1882 by a group of Schoolboys who had played cricket under the name of Hotspur cricket club. The cricket Club had been formed two years earlier by puplis of St Johns middle class school and some friends at Tottenham Grammar school.

With the end of the cricket Season in September the boys wanted another sporting pursuit to fill the winter months, and decided to form an association Football club. The decision was taken at a street meeting beneath a lamp-post on the corner of Tottenham High Road and Park Lane.
